O.W.L.s readathon update

Hello witches or wizards,

How are y’all doing? It’s finally time for my readathon update, just telling you how my reading has been.

I’ve read two books so far, Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon and The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid.

The two of them were great books but if I had to choose I’d say TSHOEH is my favorite of the two. I loved how you learned what it was like to be a woman and part of the LGBTQ+ community in the 1950’s and what it was like behind the scenes of the film business back then. There was a major plot twist in TSHOEH that I did not see coming, I really loved this book, but at one point during one of the marriages it got a little “boring” I wanna say. It’s just that she wasn’t in the film business as much anymore and so I got less interested but there was still this mystery that kept me reading which did not disappoint me at all. And I loved the romance in this book, like, really loved.

My experience with Everything, Everything was totally different but not in a bad way. I had already seen the movie so I knew what was going to happen but it was still worth the read. I’m more attached to this story now that I’ve read the book. I loved Maddy, Olly and Carla. The titles of the mini chapters were great, they were one of the things that just made the book a little better. Just like The Sun Is Also A Star, this was a quick read and the way Maddy sees the world made me think of how beautiful it is.

I changed Beauty Queens with The Opposite of Always because I’m participating in another reading challenge from HWC Fierce Readers Or Not (if you speak French go and check it out ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and so I can “kill two birds with one stone” I think it is? I’m about 150 pages in and got the feeling I’m going to love it. This book is hilarious, I promise ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€ I haven’t finished it yet (I’m not even half-way through) but I think I’m going to think it’s underrated (if you can follow ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

That’s it for this update! Let me know in the comments how your readathon is going and if you couldn’t participate just let me know how your reading is overall!

Bye, -ChH

O.W.L.s readathon

Hello witches or wizards,

So, about a month ago I saw a video from Readbyzoeย (a great booktuber) where she was participating at an O.W.L.s April readathon that seemed really fun. I was really bummed I didn’t know about it and so couldn’t participate. But then I thought and was like, maybe I can just do it in July.

Everything will be the same, except that there won’t be any events. And I’ll post some updates about my reading during the whole month. You guys can let me know in the comments how your reading will be.

Here is how the readathon works: during one month you read as many books as you can/want. Each book comes from a Hogwarts class. For example: transfiguration = a book ย with sprayed edges or a red cover. Or ancient runes = a retelling. I’m just making one change, arithmancy is normally a work written by multiple authors. But I don’t own any books written by multiple authors or have any on my tbr. So, I changed that to arithmancy you can choose between a work written by more than one authors or a work with multiple points view.

Book Roast (the Booktuber who organized the whole readathon) made a file with all the wizarding careers possibilities there are. Per career possibility you need to pass a number of Hogwarts classes (by reading a book in the “theme”).

Here is the video from Book Roast where she explains everything. You should really check it out, there you can find and print the career file. She explains everything one more time really well and don’t forget, in this readathon there won’t be any events.

This readathon will take place from June 25th to July 25th.

If you haven’t done the readathon before you can do it with me for the first time and if you have, you can do it again and try out a new wizarding career.

If I’m not wrong there will also be the N.E.W.T.s in August, but that’s when I’m in holiday without any WIFI. If I have time, I’ll do it and will then post an update about it at the end of the month.

I hope you will all join me in this readathon!

My Harry Potter Bookshelf

IMG_6846

Hello witches or wizards,

Today I’m presenting to you my Harry Potter bookshelf (I know, what a surprise, the title didn’t give it away at all ๐Ÿ˜‰ ).

So let’s start off with the books:

IMG_6848

First of, I know, I know, I don’t have the Crimes of Grindelwald screenplay. Who am I?! I’m just afraid that it won’t fit next to my other books, but I will buy it someday (I hope). There’s a second copy of the chamber of secrets on top of the rest of the books for no reason at all. I found it once, took it and put it on top of the books. Now it’s there and it doesn’t bother me, so I leave it there.

Now, we move on to the wands:

Of course I have Hermione’s wand, who’s shocked? No one, as I expected ๐Ÿ˜€ . I love that girl sooooo much, and her wand is beautiful! And then I have my wand, the one I got at the Universal Studio’s. I’ll cherish them both forever. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Next, we have the chocolate frog cards:

IMG_6851

When I bought Chocolate Frogs I was so happy because I got great cards as you can see. The ones I’m the most grateful for are the one with Helga Hufflepuff (of course, as a proud Hufflepuff ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) on it and the Albus Dumbledore one (of course, as a proud Hogwarts student ๐Ÿ˜‰ ). And it was actually quite interesting to receive the Bertie Bott card because not a lot of people have it.

After that there is a chocolate frog “box” (I don’t know how to call it):

I really like this one, it’s made out of ceramic and it’s really, really nice. I don’t have much to say about it. Of course it didn’t come with a chocolate frog or card in it, it’s just a display peace. But a really nice one.

And, lastly, I just have some bits and bots to show you that make up some of the details:

At the far left you can see a book holder (in the picture at the beginning of the post you can see that it’s on both sides of the books). When I saw it in the shop, I was thinking: “These ones are nice ๐Ÿ˜€ “. And when I was putting my shelf together it ended up there which I think is great because it fits well with the theme.

Next we have a keychain of Hermione that my mom managed to put there. I love Hermione and love this keychain so I’m really happy with it there.

Then we have the Ollivander box my wand came in. I wanted to keep the box and it was nice in the back next to the golden leaf so I left it there, and again it fits really well.

And last of the last, Harry’s glasses that were from a costume that we had for so long. Even before I read the series, and I think the costume was my brother’s. And under that there is a Gryffindor coaster that I got from a bookshop when I bought the Cursed Child.

That is it, thanks for reading my post. Hope you liked it! And see you next time (I can’t really “see” you, but you get it ๐Ÿ˜‰ )!

International Women’s Day

PHOTO-2019-03-08-06-46-47

Hello witches or wizards,

First of all, thanks for hitting 200 subscribers with me! I’m so grateful!

And second, I know what you might be thinking. ‘International women’s day? That’s not Harry Potter related.’. If you’re thinking this, you must be new. Hello and welcome to my blog! I know you’re new because you don’t know yet that I can make everythingย Harry Potter related.

International women’s day was Friday, so I’m making a post about it ๐Ÿ˜€

Let’s start off with a fun fact about a great brave woman, Nymphadora Tonks! Nymphadora comes from the two Greek words numphรช which means “the young girl” and dรดron which means “the gift”. So, her name literally means “the young girl with the gift”. And in theย Greco-Romanย mythology the word numphรช (in Latin nympha) refers to the nymphs. So Nymphadora actually has a beautiful name, even if sheย doesn’t think so.

Another interesting fact about a website called bechdeltest.comย . This test is about measuring equal representation of women in movies. To pass the test the movie has to have at least two (named) women in it who talk to each other about something besides a man. You may think that almost all movies have that conversation, but unfortunately that’s not true. For example the Harry Potter movies (not books) do not fall under that category.

For me, personally, one of the things I love the most in the Harry Potter books are the female characters. Like, of course, Hermione Granger, Luna Lovegood, Nymphadora Tonks, Ginny Weasley, Molly Weasley, Lily Evans and lots of other girls/women.

And we could never forget that the person that invented and created this whole world was a great and feminist woman!

That was it for today, I hope you enjoyed reading my post! And happy international women’s day (’cause really it’s every day ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) โค

How Harry Potter came into my life.

giphy-22

Hello witches or wizards,

A few months ago I read a great post from The Bookaholic called My journey with: Harry Potterย . Make sure to check it out, it’s great. And I thought maybe I could also do a post of how Harry Potter came into my life.

Here is how it all began. I was about 8 years old, I think, and for Christmas me and ย my family watched all the Harry Potter movies. Each night we watched one. I remember that my mom told me that the movies were based on really popular books. And 8 year old me was like: ‘Those must be big books! I don’t think I’ll ever read them.’ Little did I know back then that I would have a blog about it later, that’s how much I loved the books. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€

Some years later I had forgotten the movies. I remembered that I saw them, but I didn’t remember what they were about. What you need to know is that I take the bus to school and I always sit next to my friend. She was reading the Harry Potter series and she loved it so much she read it in the bus each morning. And I was like: ‘Those must be really good books.’ So I began reading them, and loved them!

That’s how Harry Potter came into my life! I hope you liked it! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€

The Crimes of Grindelwald – movie review

giphy-24.gif

Hello witches or wizards,

Today I’m going to talk about the new fantastic beasts movie The Crimes of Grindelwald.

*warning, this post contains spoilers*

So, when I got out of the movie theater I had a lot of thoughts at the same time. We’re going to discuss them one by one.

The first one was: Theseus is cute! I know that wasn’t the most important thing that happened in the movie, but it needs to be said.

giphy-23.gif

And the second one was (don’t worry, this one is about the story of the movie): What just happened, Credence and Dumbledore are brothers??? When did that happen? Well, I can actually answer myself, it happened at the end of the movie. But, like, huh? Nagini was totally right. It’s not where he comes from that is important, it’s who he wants to be. But I understand that he wants to know.

The third one was: Queenie, oh Queenie, Queenie, Queenie. Why? Why? If you go into that fire it won’t be with Jacob. And guess what? She went into the fire. Queenie I love you, your a great character and I understand that it’s not easy that you can’t be with Jacob, the person you love. But Grindelwald won’t help you with that. (That was my little conversation with her in my head. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€ )

The fourth one was: Thank god we’ve got Nicholas Flamel and Leta Lestrange, ’cause I don’t know what we would have done without both of them!

The fifth one was: All these new beasts are so cool! They are so beautiful, the little nifflers for example, and the zouwu! I am a big fan of the zouwu!

giphy-22

The sixth one (I told you I had a lot of thoughts) was: Talking about beasts, thank you Niffler! Wouldn’t have been able to win this war without you!

And that was it, I hope you enjoyed my post. I really liked this movie, and I really liked the “You have eyes like a salamander.” moment from Tina and Newt. ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜€
